Uneeka's Nostalgic Christmas

Team Uneeka's Christmas Top Tips:

We all know that Christmas is a time to indulge with both treating yourself and the people that you love. However, Christmas is also known to be the time of year that leads to over consumption and lots of unnecessary waste! Here at Uneeka we are passionate about the planet and will always promote a sustainable Christmas, so we thought we would share a few tips with you to help you do the same!

1. Choosing to buy ethical, eco conscious products as Christmas gifts for your loved ones. Our team carefully select the products we sell from suppliers who we know share the same values as we do, buying something that is made to a high standard using sustainable practices means they will last longer and lead to less waste. It also means that you know the gifts you're buying are higher quality and keeps the health of our planet in mind!
2. Ditch the plastic and try out eco friendly wrapping materials! Whether you buy from us in store or online, we will offer to wrap your smaller gifts in recyclable tissue paper. We also use paper bags that are made from recycled newspaper, which are great for reusing as gift bags or cutting up to use as wrapping paper. Read more about our Recycled Paper Bags here. One of our favourite gift wrapping hacks is using our recycled silk sari's, not only does it make a beautiful and unique gift wrap, it can also be reused to wrap other gifts or used for many things after, including hair accessories or a scarf. These are available in store and online and can be found here!

3. Handmade decorations! This year our talented and artsy team at Uneeka (who love to get stuck into crafts) made decorations for our café using scrap paper and old newspaper. If crafting is not your thing then we suggest investing in quality decorations that will last years, we have a beautiful selection of Christmas decorations across our stores made from various recycled materials including glass, silk and Papier-Mache, meaning you don't have to compromise on style or sustainability.

Christmas has a different meaning for everyone and everyone has their favourite memory or the one moment of the day that they look forward to the most. We wanted to get a little insight into how people spend their holidays and what their Christmas traditions are, and who better to ask than our amazing Uneeka team!

Emily our Life store manager puts her Christmas Tree up on December 1st every year without fail. Decorating the tree and putting up her lights and decorations is when she starts to get that festive feeling. Em has built up a great collection of decorations over the years, adding a new one each Christmas. She is always drawn to the Nkuku glass baubles, usually created from high quality recycled glass using traditional artisan practices and finished by hand, making each bauble unique. They're inspired by natural forms and have an elegant aged patina to them, making them the perfect decoration to adorn your tree year after year.

Our café manager Hollie's favourite Christmas memory is the one Christmas Eve as a child where her parents got a little merry in the local pub, headed home and blasted 'Stop The Cavalry' by Jona Lewie and jumped all over the sofa pretending to play the trumpet, breaking the 'no feet on the sofa' rule! If there's ever a time to break the rules to make unforgettable memories with your family it's got to be Christmas, right!

Even the main man himself, Jodi (cofounder of Uneeka) puts all thoughts of the business aside for one day of the year to spend Christmas with his gorgeous little girls, watching them open their presents and seeing the pure excitement on their faces makes all the hard work throughout the year so worth it. You can't put a price on uninterrupted time with your family.

And obviously we cant forget about the food, I think everyone can agree that Christmas food is top tier, Kaan our allrounder, handy man/delivery driver/yoga instructor/quiz master is the first to get his feasting pants on and tuck into Christmas dinner, with ALL the trimmings, and eat until he passes out on the sofa. But it's just not about the Christmas dinner, it's the elite snacks hidden in the cupboard from early November that your mum won't let you touch because 'they're for Christmas'. Mince pies, Christmas puddings, yule logs all the best festive snacks! Olive, from our life store, preaches that Christmas is a time to eat whatever you want, whenever you want, chocolate for breakfast is a given!

Stop of at our Café above the Life Store for some tasty homemade Christmas treats and beverages. Their mince pies are a great little energy booster to keep you going through all the Christmas shopping!

Here at Uneeka we so enjoy the buzz of the community around Christmas time, the lights, the music, the smell of the Christmas treats from the market stalls create such a beautiful atmosphere. It really is the most wonderful time of the year. We love helping our customers pick out that perfect gift and we thank you for shopping with us and continuing to support our small business.

Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅  Love from Team Uneeka xo
