Brocade fabrics are woven on looms, taking much longer than many other textiles due to the intricate nature of the technique, and the years of practice it often takes for artisans to develop their skills. The brocade designs often add a thickness and sturdiness to the fabric that is absent in other design as the pattern is woven into the fabric itself instead of being added on top. The painstaking effort, traditional significance, and elaborate designs that brocade fabric often has all contribute to these products looking beautiful and sophisticated.
Made by Aspiration a small fair trading organisation in Delhi, India. One of Aspirations aims is to revive the old crafts of India. Brocade weaving is a technique that has been used in India for hundreds of years.
