Lizzie-May Designs now at Uneeka
Lizzie-May is an artist based in a small village close to Truro, Cornwall. Her work is heavily inspired by nature; painting scenes that include dense botanicals, flowers and interesting gardens. She uses gouache paints along with other mixed media to layer looser brushstrokes along with finer details to capture immersive scenes.
Lizzie-May sells her work under the name ‘Lizzie-May Design’ that includes cards, art prints, enamel pins and more. She works with suppliers based in the UK to help her create these products. Sourcing as locally as possible has always been a priority for her. Furthermore, Lizzie also strives to be as eco-friendly and sustainable with her products. She has eliminated the need for plastic wraps and replaced these with compostable options and all of her packaging is fully recyclable and biodegradable.
Alongside running her business, Lizzie-May also works for Uneeka and enjoys stocking a range of her products in our shops and online. “It’s so lovely when I am working in the shop and a customer wants to buy something I made. What brand of sketchbook do you use?
"Typically a Moleskine or Stillman & Birn journal that is above 200gsm paper weight so that it keeps it's shape!"
What types of paints and materials do you use?
Winsor & Newton / Daler & Rowney Gouache and sometimes I will add details with Faber Castell Pencils and Caran d'Ache Wax Pastels.
How did you find your style?
It has taken me a long time as an artist to develop this style I am working in at the moment. It's been a process over the last few years of commitment and also realising that I can choose to paint what I love and focus on that. I saw my style really come into it's own in 2020, when I challenged myself to paint every day for a few weeks. I also did a lot of research into art I admired, and followed along to some Skillshare classes which really helped broaden my ways of painting!
