Fair Trade Fortnight 2025

The timing couldn’t be better… as we launch our brand-new Uneeka website, we’re also celebrating one of the most important events in our calendar: Fairtrade Fortnight 2025.

Fairtrade has always been at the heart of Uneeka. Since our beginnings in 2004, we’ve championed ethical sourcing, sustainable furniture, and Fairtrade homeware. Over the years, we’ve been proud to take part in Fairtrade Fortnight in many ways; from helping Truro gain temporary Fairtrade status, to collaborating with University College Falmouth on reusable shopping bags, to joining community events like Truro’s Big Swap. And today, we’re still flying the flag for Fairtrade with the same passion and commitment.

Why Fairtrade Matters to Uneeka

From day one, the way we source our products has been as important as the products themselves. As proud members of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops), we believe in making Fairtrade gifts and design-led homeware accessible, stylish, and affordable.

Our Directors and their family, pictured, have visited many of our suppliers in person, to ensure fair trade conditions and create personal relationships.

When we meet potential suppliers, the first questions we ask are about their manufacturing processes and the stories behind their products. We seek out makers who share our values — ethical, eco-conscious companies who embrace sustainability, innovation, and respect for both people and planet.

That means filling our stores with eco-friendly homeware, reclaimed wood furniture, recycled textiles, and Fairtrade jewellery — all crafted with care for the environment and the communities behind them.

The Power of Fairtrade

Established in 1992, the Fairtrade Foundation defines Fairtrade as better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in developing countries.

By working with our Fair Trade suppliers, we’re helping to support disadvantaged artisans and producers, empowering them to build stronger, more independent futures.

And when you shop with Uneeka, you’re part of that story too — proving that you don’t have to compromise on style to shop ethically.

Stories Behind Our Ethical Products

Many of our suppliers are small, community-led enterprises dedicated to preserving traditional skills. Here are just a few highlights from our Fairtrade homeware and sustainable gift collections

  • Block-Printed Floral Quilts from India
Hand block-printed in Jaipur, India, these cotton quilts showcase warm floral tones. Each piece is unique, crafted using traditional wooden blocks and natural dyes. The artisans receive fair wages, medical support, and pensions, ensuring this quilt is as ethical as it is beautiful.

  • Handmade Felt Creations from Nepal
Using natural and sustainable materials, these felt products are handcrafted under Fairtrade conditions, supporting skilled artisans and their families. The work provides artisans in Nepal with the opportunity to live independently, with access to safe, discrimination-free employment and a fair rate of pay.

  • Recycled Zari Saree Purses & Hair Scrunchies
Crafted from recycled sarees, including Zari bridal sarees, these purses and scrunchies transform beautiful fabrics into unique, one-of-a-kind items. The production provides artisans with reliable income, helping them move from financial insecurity to economic self-sufficiency, while enriching local communities and keeping these textiles out of landfill.

  • Old Indian Furniture
Our much-loved reclaimed furniture range features one-of-a-kind pieces that bring unique character to your home. No two pieces are the same, making them truly special.

  • Fairtrade Jewellery from Kenya
Our silver-plated and brass jewellery is crafted in Mombasa by artisans supported by the Bombolulu Workshops. This WFTO member empowers disabled makers with training, fair pay, and access to vital social initiatives like a nursery, clinic, and HIV prevention support.
